Hurley Care Guidance
Thank you for choosing Torpey!
We're excited to be a part of your hurling/camogie journey and want to help you maintain your hurley.
NATURAL MATERIALS
Torpey hurleys are made from natural ash and bamboo materials. It is important to note that as they are natural materials they may display natural characteristics such as variations in texture/structure, or changes/deterioration over time are due to their organic nature. These features are inherent qualities of natural products.
PLAYING SURFACE
Please be mindful of the surface that your hurley comes into contact with, as it is intended to be used on grass surfaces. Avoid using on gravel or concrete; these surfaces can damage the hurley.
WEIGHT
Please note choosing a lightweight hurley will increase the risk of breakage compared to medium/heavy weight hurleys.
BAMBÚ
Do store your BAMBÚ hurley in dry, well-ventilated conditions to maintain the quality of your hurley.
Do clean the hurley every month or so if used regularly. Use warm soapy water sparingly to remove surface dirt.
Don’t expose your hurley to moisture over an extended period.
Don’t leave the hurley in enclosed and/or dark spaces with poor ventilation for lengthy periods of time. Dark spots or a musty smell may indicate mold due to bamboo's natural material. Clean with equal parts vinegar and water or lemon oil diluted with water, then dry thoroughly before storing.
Bambú is not an unbreakable product but we have found it to last longer than ash hurleys in all testing to date.
ASH
Do store your Ash hurley in moist, well-ventilated conditions to maintain the quality of your hurley.
Do clean the hurley every month or so if used regularly. Use warm soapy water sparingly to remove surface dirt.
Don’t store your Ash hurley in warm and/or dry conditions. Avoid heat sources (radiators, heaters, stoves). Ash hurleys that dry out too much can warp and become brittle.
Don’t use your Ash hurley competitively in a match or training straight away. We recommend light use of the hurley for 2 weeks prior to a match or training. This binds the fibres together which may prevent an early break.
