At Torpey, innovation has always been at the heart of what we do. From pioneering Bambú Hurley technology to reimagining the future of the game, we’ve spent decades helping hurlers perform at their best.
Now, we’re proud to unveil our latest breakthrough, the Torpey Kláw, a hurling glove designed to deliver peerless protection, razor-sharp grip and a feather-light feel.
Built to Protect, Designed to Perform
At the core of the Kláw is a revolutionary material that stiffens on impact and softens after the strike. This means that when a sliotar or hurley hits your hand, the glove absorbs the force and protects you, giving you the confidence to catch and control the ball, no matter how fast it’s coming at you.
Whether you’re:
- A young player still mastering your swing.
- An elite athlete fielding hundreds of balls in training.
- A player who simply wants more grip and confidence on match day.
The Kláw is built to keep you protected and performing at your best, in every condition.
Six Years in the Making
The Kláw isn’t just another glove, it’s the result of a six-year, six-partner, all-Ireland collaboration aimed at reducing hand injuries in Hurling and Camogie.
This project brought together:
- Daniel Harte, Occupational Therapist at Southern Health and Social Care Trust, whose research with Loughborough University showed that woven, stretchable protective fabrics could reduce hand injuries.
- Seán Torpey, Torpey Managing Director and Loughborough graduate, who envisioned a “second skin” glove that improves grip, dexterity and confidence.
- Aonghus Clarke, former Westmeath hurling captain, who ensured the glove delivered both grip and freedom of movement.
- Design Partners at PA Consulting, who prototyped and refined the glove to meet the demands of the game.
- Support from InterTradeIreland Fusion Project and Clare Local Enterprise Office, who funded and supported this innovation from concept to launch.
The Player Experience
"The breakthrough was finding a material that stiffens when struck and softens after impact,” says Seán Torpey. “With the Kláw, players can catch a sliotar flying at over 120 km/h first time, every time and play with even more confidence.”
Aonghus Clarke adds: “The training ground is the proving ground. To confidently catch two or three hundred balls driven hard from 5–10 metres, with less chance of injury, is a step change for players.”
Daniel Harte, the glove could change the injury stats for good: “The little finger is the most commonly injured digit in hurling, but injuries to all fingers and the palm are high. By lessening the load from high impact forces, the Kláw should help reduce the number of injuries we see in orthopaedics.”
Another Step Forward for Hurling
Just like our Bambú Hurley changed the way players approach the game, the Kláw continues our mission to protect players, improve performance and inspire more people to take up Hurling and Camogie.
Ready to Raise Your Game?
If you’re ready to catch with confidence, grip with precision and protect your hands like never before, the Torpey Kláw is here.
