Reporting to the Innovation Lead, the ideal candidate will have experience rooted in design and engineering and a passion for objective evaluation of performance characteristics and sustainable material design in sports equipment.

What day-to-day Games you’ll be playing

The successful candidate will lead the specification, design, and testing of a range of novel new sporting equipment concepts. TORPEY seeks a motivated engineering graduate to lead the development of these products which the company believes to be the future of the business.

The candidate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Southern Regional College (SRC) and will also have the opportunity to avail of a Post Graduate Diploma with Queen’s University Belfast as part of the employment offering.

Key responsibilities include

• R&D: Researching and evaluating performance of products and consideration for association and national standards.
• Performance Testing & Standardization: Leading the development of an industry first test facility to maintain and enhance product quality and safety standards.
• Technical Specifications: Development of performance specifications for new Torpey designs.
• Conceptual Design & Prototype Development: Component design, prototyping and testing of new Torpey products and understanding the latest trends in material science.
• Manufacturing Design: Evaluation of manufacturing set ups to enable production at scale along with continuation of LEAN company goals.
• Project Management: Supporting the timely delivery of the products to market.

Essential Criteria

1. Degree or Masters in Product Design /Mechanical Engineering.
2. Proficient in use of Solidworks, CAD or another 3D Drawing package
3. Fluent verbal and written English
4. Must hold a full valid driving licence and have access to own vehicle.
5. If necessary, you must have a valid work permit/visa in place allowing you to work legally in Rep of Ireland.

Desirable Criteria

1. At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role i.e. product design.
2. Awareness of the latest trends in sustainable material design.
3. Proven interest in product experimental design, data analysis and biomechanics of sport.
4. An understanding of testing procedures and virtual engineering processes would be desirable (Finite Element Analysis and/other systems).
5. Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
6. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
7. Excellent communication/ interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, including influencing and collaboration skills.
8. Resourcefulness (can turn their hand to anything).
9. Balance of creative flair and cost analysis acumen.
10. Willingness to develop and broaden software/digital knowledge as required by the company.
